Vice-Chancellor Ends Listening and Assessment Tour with The Faculty of Applied Sciences

The Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Professor Samuel Nii Odai on Monday, 24th August 2020 wrapped up his guided tour of the various faculties with a visit to the Faculty of Applied Sciences.

The tour took him to the various departments under the faculty; Mathematics and Statistics, Computers Science, Science Laboratory Technology and Medical Laboratory Technology.

Accompanied by some Management members, Deans and Directors, Professor Samuel Nii Odai interacted with some staff of the various offices to appraise their work and appreciate their service over the years.

Delivering the welcome address at a gathering after the tour,  the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Dr. Constance Alice Mensah, commended the Vice-Chancellor for his pragmatic leadership since his appointment and the wisdom in recognising that the staff of the faculties are integral to his work as the ‘Chief Executive Officer’ of the University.

Among the issues expressed by the staff during the open forum bothered on inadequate teaching materials for practical work, staff remuneration, mentorship and training, over utilisation of university facility due to student-facility ratio, curriculum development and others.

Dr. Constance Mensah was hopeful that the challenges expressed will receive swift responses and remedies for the faculty.

Responding to some of the issues, the Vice-Chancellor hinted that very soon, some vital facilities will see a facelift to address the issues of congestion and quality in teaching and learning. He added that in the development of curriculum and programmes, the University has identified capacity in ICT, Entrepreneurship and soft skills training as an important requirement for the contemporary graduate for the world of work.

He continued that Management in the face of the ravaging threats of COVID-19 will consider blended learning to maximise the enrolment of students from the free SHS cohort.

Prof. Odai assured that Management will embrace the ideas of every staff committed to the growth of the University and charged all to create a congenial atmosphere for healthy growth and development.
